Bangladesh confirms first medal in 2022 Islamic Solidarity Games

Bangladesh women archers will face Turkish counterparts in Wednesday's gold-medal decider

Bangladesh’s first medal in the 2022 Islamic Solidarity Games was confirmed Monday as the women archers set up a final date with hosts Turkey in Konya.

Roksana Akter, Shyamoli Ray and Pushpita Jaman totaled 2034 points to finish second in the compound team event and will now face their Turkish counterparts in the gold-medal decider Wednesday.

Roksana had also fared well in the compound 50m singles event, at one point leading the chart till the 60th shot before eventually emerging fifth with a total score of 682 following 72 shots.

Shyamoli garnered 680 points and followed closely behind at sixth while Pushpita scored 672 points to finish eighth.

Both Roksana and Shyamoli received a bye to the quarter-finals while Pushpita will contest the pre-quarterfinal.

In the recurve men’s 70m singles, Hakim Ahmed Rubel scored 645 points to emerge 10th while the country’s premier archer Ruman Shana totaled 644 to finish 11th.

Sagor Islam ended 16th with 629 points and will now play the pre-quarterfinal while Hakim and Runa both received a bye to the last eight.

In the recurve men’s team category, Bangladesh finished fifth with 1,918 points.
