Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman emerged as the unbeaten champion in the Prime Bank 16th International Rating Chess Tournament with eight points. In the 9th and last round yesterday Zia drew with Shakil to clinch the title. GM Abdullah al Rakib finished runners-up with 7.5 points.
Three players finished the meet on 7.5 points, but Rakib finished second in the tie-breaking. IM Abu Sufian Shakil became 3rd and FM Aminul Islam 4th. Masum Hossain and Sharif Hossain finished 5th and 6th respectively with seven points each.
Mosud Mannan, additional secretary of the Foreign Ministry, distributed the prizes as chief guest. Muhammad Yasin Ali, deputy managing director of Prime Bank Limited, and Gazi Shayiful Tarique, general
secretary of Bangladesh Chess Federation, were also present as special guests.
