Top national archer Ruman Shana is determined to continue his good form in the international stage and get another medal in the upcoming event of the 2019 Asia Cup-World Ranking Tournament Stage 3, scheduled to be held in Clark City, Philippines from September 8-15.

A press conference was held at the BOA Auditorium Friday regarding the details of a four-member Bangladesh archery team’s trip to Philippines for the first time on September 7.

Bangladesh will only participate in the recurve division as the other members are Tamimul Islam, Hakim Ahmed Rubel and only female archer, Beauty Roy.

The tournament was previously known as Asian Grand Prix where Ruman won his first gold in 2014.

He also bagged a silver in the individual recurve event and a bronze in the team event, along with Rubel and Imdadul Haque Milon, in the Stage 1 of the competition in March this year.

“We have won medals in this competition before. We want keep up the consistency in Philippines as well,” said Ruman before adding, “The more we play the more experience we will gain. I have recovered from nervousness and the confidence has also increased. I hope to win a medal there.”

Ruman, who became the second ever Bangladesh athlete to qualify for the Olympics directly after finishing among the top four with a bronze in the World Championship this year, will test his new arrow and bow in the upcoming event.

German coach Frederick Martin said, “Asia Cup is an important event in the calendar. Due to our limited budget, we are only allowed to pick four players and we chose the best four. It’s also a world ranking tournament so we will try to climb in the ranking and come closer with the top archers in the world.”

Modhumoti Bank Limited will be sponsoring the Bangladesh team for the Philippines tour.

They will also sponsor six archery tournaments in Bangladesh in 2019-20.

Managing director and CEO of Modhumoti Bank, Shafiul Azam handed over a check of Tk30 lakhs to Bangladesh Archery Federation general secretary Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapol.
