Team Bridge Lovers became the national champion of bridge as they clinched the 34th Hamid Tower National Bridge Championship 2019 Saturday.
Bridge Lovers beat Team Liberty by 178-130 IMPS in the five-session final match that was held throughout Friday and Saturday at the Bangladesh Olympic Association building in Dhaka.
AHM Kamruzzaman, the senior member of the winning side, was happy to maintain their supremacy but at the same time lamented the lack of growth of this global sport in the country.
“It is a great joy as we have been winning it regularly but I would expect young players to come forward and hoist the country’s flag in the global arena by doing well in the sport,” said Kamruzzaman, a senior principal officer of Bangladesh Krishi Bank.

Rashedul Ahsan, Asifur Rahman Chowdhury, Moshiur Rahman, Monirul Islam and Shah Zia ul Haq were the other members of the Bridge Lovers.
Most of the members of this team took part in the last edition of the World Bridge competition by qualifying from the South and Middle East Asia Zone and ensured the country’s participation for the first time in the coveted tournament.
Only 22 teams from the world qualified for the tournament and Bangladesh shocked a team like the USA in that competition in France.
The team will feature in the qualifying round, by virtue of winning a national level trial tournament, once again later this year in Jordan and are expecting to pass the hurdle and represent Bangladesh in the highest echelon of the game for another time.
