Bangladesh clinch three bronzes, eye five golds

With these medals hosts Bangladesh have now a total of four bronze medals and India have three bronze medals while Iran, Chinese Taipei and Iraq have one bronze each after the end of bronze medal matches

Bangladeshi archers earned three bronze medals on Monday and will compete for five gold medals tomorrow in the 3rd ISSF International Solidarity World Ranking Archery completion championship, 2019.

Bangladesh’s Sojib Sheikh got the narrowest of wins in the Compound Men’s event as he scored 143 - just one more than Chinese Taipe’s Lin Che-Wei’s 142 - to earn the bronze medal in the individual event at the Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master Stadium in Tongi.

In the Compound Mix team event Susmita Banik and Sojib Sheikh got another narrow victory as they scored 148 against Iraq’s Skhan Waleed Hameed and Almashhadani Fatimah, who got 144, to win the bronze medal match.

Meanwhile Roman Sana and Diya Siddiqui won convincingly by 5-1 sets in the Recurve mixed team event against Sansyzbay Zaure and Kuzmin Andrey to earn bronze.

With these medals hosts Bangladesh have now a total of four bronze medals and India have three bronze medals while Iran, Chinese Taipei and Iraq have one bronze each after the end of bronze medal matches.

In other matches of the day, India’s Changmai Bishal beat Iraq’s Shabani Reza by 7-3 in the Recurve Men’s event. Bishal’s compatriot Bari Komalika beat Iran’s Ghassemi Parmida by 6-2 in the Recurve Women’s event. India got their third bronze through Pawar Isa Ketan, who beat her compatriot Sanachita Tiawary by 142-139, in the Compound Women’s event.

The tournament will end today with all ten gold medal matches and Bangladesh’s Ruman will be eying to win one in the Recurve Men’s event as he will face Thailand’s Thepna Denchai.

Diya will also vie for the gold medal in the Recurve Women’s event as she will face Iran’s Shojamehr Shiva in the final.

The Recurve men’s team of Bangladesh, consisting Ruman, Tamimul Islam and Mohammad Hakim Rubel will also play in the gold medal match against India.

Bangladeshi archers will also play both the finals of Men and Women Compound events. Bonya Akter, Susmita and Shyamoli Ray will feature in the women’s team while Ashim Kumar Das, Abul Kasem Mamun and Sheikh Sojib will feature the men’s team for the hosts.

Golam Dastagir Gazi, the minister of textiles and jute ministry, will distribute the prizes among winners as the chief guest on Tuesday.
