Bangladesh’s prowess was too much to handle for Thailand as the hosts registered their second win in the Men’s Junior AHF Cup with a facile 10-0 victory over Thailand at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium yesterday.
The home side youngsters, who thrashed Chinese Taipei 7-0 in the opening game, took just three minutes to resume their scoring spree as the hapless Thai team seemed to have no clue of their opponent. The Thai team were found trying to defend their fort form the relentless onslaughts and brilliant saves from their goalkeeper Suriphong saved them from further blushes.
Prior the tournament coach Mamunur Rashid expressed his desire to see his charges put more effort in converting the penalty corners and the urge was clearly evident in the team work the home side exhibited. Penalty corner specialist Khorshedur Rahman mopped up three goals as Bangladesh netted six from the corners, while the forwards also looked to link up well ahead of their crucial tie against Oman, who beat Thailand 7-0, tomorrow.
Skipper Sarwar Hossain opened the scoring in the third minute with a fierce hit from the inside edge of the arc before Khorshedur made it three-nil scoring in the 6th and 10th minute while his other goal came in the 23rd minute. Forwards Milon Hossain (20th, 41st, 47th minute), Moinul Islam Koushik (38th,48th minute) and Roman Sarker (43rd minute) were the other goal scorers for Bangladesh.
