Rebel hockey clubs form forum

Update : 18 Nov 2013, 06:39 PM

The hockey arena of the country seems to be heading to a new problem zone as a number of clubs have decided to unite under the banner and formed a forum called Players-Official Unity forum.

The Players-Official Unity revealed their upcoming activities that includes distributing memorandums and wearing black badges in silent protest. The forum is expected to send a memorandum to the president of Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) Air Marshall Enamul Bari.

The deadline day for the six-day long inter-club players’ transfer window is Thursday. Three premier league clubs Mohammedan, Mariners Young’s Club and Wari Club who earlier boycotted all hockey activities, are not taking part and it was learnt that the clubs are planning to do everything they can to halt the transfer activities.

The newly formed forum organisers said that their stance against the current executive committee of BHF is to save the country’s hockey from the illegal activities of the BHF’s newly elected committee.

The forum organisers will hold a silent protest wearing black badges on Thursday, which will start from Maulana Bhashani National Hockey stadium and end at Bangabandhu National Stadium.

However, the federation officials said they will continue their activities despite the protest from the forum.

The hockey arena has been in turmoil over the last six months as Mohammedan and other clubs refused to take part in the hockey elections that saw the panel, led by Khwaja Rahmatullah, register a clean sweep. The rebel hockey clubs since then have demanded the resignation of Rahmatullah.
