BHF plans for int’l meet

Update : 21 Oct 2013, 05:54 PM

Following an interest from an event management company, the Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) is planning to host an international hockey tournament in December involving eight countries.

All the plans are in the preliminary stages and the federation officials don’t want to disclose the matter to the media until anything is confirmed. If everything goes as planned, the tournament would help the federation to bring some pace in the hockey arena after the debacle in the recently concluded Asia Cup.

The BHF wants to organise the tournament between December 12-25 in which India and Pakistan could be the big names while other nations like South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Thailand will also participate.

BHF officials sat for a primary discussion yesterday and they decided to recommend it during the governing body meeting after holding talks with the respective participant federations. BHF also needs permission from the Asian Hockey Federation to host the meet.

The budget of the tournament is approximately Tk15m and the interested event management company has verbally agreed to sponsor the meet, it was learnt.
