National hockey team to play practice matches

The Bangladesh national hockey team is expected to play at least four practice matches as part of their preparation for the upcoming Asia Cup Hockey, which will begin August 24 in Malaysia.

Bangladesh’s Pakistani coach Naveed Alam felt that practice matches would helpful and the hockey federation has contacted three Indian clubs - Air India, Panjab National Bank and Rajesh Chouhan academy – about the matter. Which club will come to play has yet to be confirmed.

“We have talked to three Indian clubs. One of them will visit Dhaka very soon and we will play four practice matches to prepare ourselves for the Asia Cup,” said newly elected BHF general secretary Khwaja Rahmatullah.

Khwaja added that all the clubs that had been contacted had responded positively and one of the clubs will tour Dhaka after Eid al-Fitr for about seven days.

Meanwhile, Youth and Sports Minister Ahad Ali Sarkar sat in a meeting with the new elected committee of Bangladesh Hockey Federation. The minister urged the committee to solve the ongoing crisis in the game regarding players’ transfers by having discussions with the clubs.
