Malek hat-trick propels Army

Bangladesh Army, Dhaka, BKSP and Faridpur registered victories in their respective matches yesterday to move to the semi-finals of the Bangladesh Games hockey.

Abdul Malek’s six goals, that included a hat-trick, enabled Army to thrash Joypurhat 12-0 and seal a place in the last four. BKSP routed Satkhira 8-0 with Arshad scoring three goals for the winners.

Despite a 3-3 draw, Bangladesh Navy missed out on a semi-final spot as their opponent Dhaka made it through their group. Ajit Kumar, Asaduzzaman and Shahidullah Khokon netted one apiece for Dhaka while Belal scored twice for Navy.

In the day's last game, star-studded Faridpur outclassed Rajshahi by 7-1 goals. Star forward Puskor Khisho Mimo slammed four goals while Mainul Islam netted twice for Faridpur.

Army will take on Dhaka in the first semi-final at 1:00pm today while Faridpur are scheduled to face BKSP at 3:15pm.
