Coronavirus: Hockey federation closes office

The federation also suspended all kinds of training at the Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium in the capital until the end of the month

Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) has decided to close its office from Sunday to until March 31 as a precaution to curb the coronavirus spread.

The BHF members and officials are asked to do their work, only in case of emergency, on online staying at their home.

The federation also suspended all kinds of training at the Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium in the capital until the end of the month.

In a press release the BHF stated on Sunday, “According to the direction from BHF president Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat, Bangladesh Hockey Federation office is declared closed from March 22 to March 31. All practice and matches at Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium are also suspended. The respective authorities are advised to complete their official works [only if emergency] from home. All officials and staffs are also requested to ensure safety of themselves and their families.”

The President and  Chief Executive Officer of Inter Hockey Federation (FIH), Narinder Dhruv Batra and Thierry Weill respectively, in a letter dated March 19 to all member associations urged to follow recommendations of WHO and local public authority.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Saturday decided to let its staff stay at home and work remotely.

Earlier on March 16, Bangladesh Government suspended all kinds of sports activities across the country until March 31. Since then, two coronavirus deaths and 24 infected cases were confirmed until Saturday.
