Bangladesh’s target to finish among the top six has now come closer with the win

Bangladesh hockey team began their Asian Games 2018 campaign with a promising 2-1 win over rivals Oman in their opening match of Group B at GBK hockey field in Jakarta, Indonesia on Monday.

Mohammad Arshad Hossain put Bangladesh ahead a minute before the end of the first period before Oman’s Ammaar Juma Salim Al-Shaaibi equalized the margin in the 23rd minute.

Mohammad Ashraful Islam sealed the winner for Bangladesh after successfully converting a penalty corner in the 27th minute of the same quarter.

Bangladesh earned one more penalty corner while Oman had four but solid defense by Gobinathan Krishnamurthy’s side mean Bangladesh attained revenge of their defeat from the last Asiad with a crucial win.

Bangladesh’s target to finish among the top six has now come closer with the win. Having been placed in Group B, Bangladesh will face Pakistan, Malaysia, Thailand and Kazakhastan in the remainder of their matches.
