Mohammad Nazim of Bangladesh Army and Nasima Akhter Shiva of Kurmitola Golf Club (KGC) emerged as champions on the last day of their respective men’s and women’s golf events of the Bangladesh Games at the KGC yesterday.
The overall leader from the very beginning, Nazim, kept his cool till the end to maintain his supremacy with 16-under-par 200 in the 54-hole three-day event. Nazim, the top amateur golfer of the country, was followed by Mohammad Sagor, who complied six-under-par 210 to clinch the silver. Sajib Ali, another prominent amateur, made three-under-par 213 to bag the bronze.
In the women's section, Shiva claimed gold with a score of 10-over-par 154. She was fiercely challenged by Zakia Akhter of Ansar and VDP, who finished with 12-over-par 156, while 17-over-par 161 fetched bronze to Bangladesh Army’s Lima Akhter.
The men’s team event was won by Bangladesh Army, which was comprised of Mohammad Sagor and Mohammad Sajib Ali. Liton Mia and Mohammad Nazim, also of Bangladesh Army, finished second to grab the silver while the bronze went to Savar Golf Club’s Mohammad Badol and Mohammad Ismail.
The women's team event crown went to KGC’s Nasima Akhter and Liza Akhter. The silver was bagged by Zakia Akhter and Ringkee Akhter of Ansar and VDP and the bronze went to Auroni and Soniya Akhter of Bangladesh Army.
