League leaders and defending champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club registered their sixth consecutive victory when they edged past Sheikh Russel 1-0 at Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.
A second-half header by Landing Darboe was enough for the Dhanmondi giants to salvage all three points against their namesake. Landing broke the deadlock in the 56th minute, heading home a corner from Mohammad Linkon.
The victory consolidated Sheikh Jamal’s place at the top of the points table with maximum 18 points from six matches while Sheikh Russel remained at sixth with nine points having played a game less than their rival.
Meanwhile in the day’s other match at the same venue, Abahani jumped to second place following their 1-0 win over Brothers Union.
Hungarian midfielder Gabor Demjen netted the all-important goal in the 21st minute. Receiving a low cross from Emon Babu, the Hungarian placed home past Brothers goalkeeper Biplob Bhattacharjee from the edge of the box.
Abahani now have 13 points from six matches while Brothers are two places below in fourth with 10 points from six matches.
