Bangladesh exit Saff U-15 Championship in semis

Bangladesh U-15 football team exited the inaugural Saff U-15 Championship after losing to host Nepal 4-2 in a thrilling encounter at ANFA Complex in Kathmandu, Nepal on Friday. Silly mistakes from the defenders, as well as the goalkeeper, saw the visitor limp out of contention.

At one stage, the tourist were trailing 3-0 having shipped two goals within half and hour, but the junior Bengal Tigers in red and green showed courage to come back with two quick goals in the second half. The third goal came as more of a shocker for Bangladesh as defender Nazmul Biswas sent the ball into his own net while trying to clear Karlos Bakariya’s cross from the right flank. Bangladesh managed to reduce the margin, netting two goals in the 72nd and 73rd minute, and both came through in-form forward Faysal Ahmed. Faysal took a free-kick outside the right side of the box that beat the Nepal custodian. Faysal pulled another back a minute later with a simple tap-in.The home side sealed victory in the sixth minute of injury time after Birjesh Chaudhary beat Emon to find the back of the net. Bangladesh will play their last match of the event on Sunday in the third-place deciding match against Bhutan, who they had beat in the group stage 3-0.
