Foolproof security in Bangabandhu Gold Cup

Update : 22 Jan 2015, 07:39 PM

On behalf of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup’s security committee, DIG Sheikh Mohammed Maruf Hasan, in a press conference at the BFF House yesterday, assured foolproof security to the foreign teams as well as the local spectators.

Maruf, who is also a security officer of the Asian Football Confederation, said highest possible security measures will be taken for the upcoming international competition. “We do not want to disclose the measures. But, I want to say the venues and the players will be accorded top-notch security measures. Both police and plain-clothed security officials will be roaming all over.”

Maruf said they are confident of a secured atmosphere. “Traditionally, we have a clean record of hosting sports events. We have every hope that it will continue. We have the right approach of preserving the peaceful atmosphere. Police and RAB will be working together during the football tournament.”

The security committee will fly to Sylhet today to check the security measures. “Regarding Sylhet, we hope that the number of tickets will be the same as the seating capacity. If it is properly maintained then I think it will not be tough maintaining discipline.”

The deputy chairman of the committee, Joint Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Mir Rezaul Alam, was also present in the briefing.
