Giggs picks his greatest United XI

Update : 22 Aug 2017, 05:33 PM
Ryan Giggs has revealed to Wales Online what he considers to be the best Manchester United team, made up of players he has shared the Old Trafford dressing room with, reports 90mins.in. The 43-year-old has played with some of the biggest names in world football during his time at Old Trafford. The likes of Paul Scholes, Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, Roy Keane, Eric Cantona are just a few of the names who have brushed shoulder with the Welshman at the Manchester-based club. In a career spanning more than 24 years, Giggs won a total of 35 trophies, which includes 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League trophies as well. And whilst there are a few surprising omissions it still looks like he picked strong side that would probably wipe the floor with any of the game's current teams. The most noticeable absentee is the enigma that was Eric Cantona who was overlooked by Giggs, whilst the likes of Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra and David De Gea were also ignored. However, that rather highlights the quality of past Manchester United teams and Giggs picked himself to lead this side as player manager, despite the presence of hard-man Roy Keane in central midfield. Cristiano Ronaldo's inclusion up front is of little surprise and whilst he may have had his critics in recent years, Wayne Rooney is also given the nod, ahead of the likes of Ruud van Nistelrooy and Andy Cole. David Beckham and Gary Neville make up the right hand side of the team after forming an impressive partnership towards the end of 90's when United claimed that historic treble. Paul Scholes, Denis Irwin and Jaap Stam were also chosen, whilst the all important goalkeeper's jersey was given to Peter Schmeichel.Giggs' team reminds us all just how good some of Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United sides really were, even considering the blistering start to the new season by Jose Mourinho's latest crop.
