Portugal wins by an extra time goal against Argentina

Update : 18 Nov 2014, 11:34 PM

A much anticipated international friendly consisted with the two of the greatest footballers on earth, Lionel Messi and Christiano Ronaldo was decided by an extra time goal.

20 years’ old Raphael Guerreiro's stoppage-time goal earned Portugal a 1-0 friendly win over Argentina in a friendly at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old made his international debut in Friday's Euro 2016 qualifying win over Armenia, and after coming on as a second-half substitute, he was left all alone to head Ricardo Quaresma's cross into the net and ensure Portugal finished 2014 with a third consecutive 1-0 victory.

For the supporters it was a disappointing show as neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo produced any true moments of magic to spark the match into life.

The tone of the match was evident as both Ronaldo and Messi were brought off at half-time. Both of these players exhibit the sort of performance which was nowhere near to their reputation.  The game turned into an incredibly boring one, but somehow Portugal have managed to leave Manchester with a 1-0 win

Messi came closest to scoring when he struck the base of a post inside the opening quarter of an hour before both he and Ronaldo were taken off at half-time.

Argentina, the World Cup runners-up could not come up with a decisive moment to change the course of the game and highly disappointed their huge number of followers around the globe.

Ronaldo, the real Madrid star and currently the winner of Balon D’or has been bleak throughout the game, however his team mate Quaresma, who has been inactive on most of the game, has redeemed himself entirely with a great cross that finds the unmarked Guerreiro, who dives in to head the ball past Guzman and into the back of the net at the injury time of the game.
