Mohammedan Sporting Club edged past Team BJMC 2-1 to reach the final of the Airtel Under-18 Football Tournament yesterday. as they defeated in the second semifinal at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.
Two quick goals – an own goal and Rasel Munshi strike – early in the second-half put Mohammedan in a comfortable position in the second semifinal at the Bangabandhu National Stadium, though MS Bablu pulled one back for BJMC after the hour mark.
BJMC had the first real chance to score in the 17th minute but their forward Rezzatul Islam failed to keep his strike on target in a one-on-one situation. Mohammedan skipper Bodrul Hasan Tutul also squandered a glorious opportunity in the 44th minute.
However, the young Black and Whites appeared as a different attacking unit after the breather and it took them only a minute to open the scoring. Sadek Hossain surged forward free from the right flank before delivering a low and powerful cross which deflected of BJMC defender Arman Sadi into their own net.
Midfielder Rasel doubled the lead seven minutes later smashing home from middle of the box after Tutul’s close range shot was blocked by a defender.
Bablu reduced the margin in the 63rd minute with a powerful strike from outside the box, but that was all as BJMC eventually went down 2-1.
Mohammedan will take on Brothers Union in the final of the age group tournament on October 2.
