The two fierce arch-rivals of Dhaka, Abahani Limited and Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited, were placed in the same group in the Airtel Under-18 Football Tournament 2014 which will kick off on September 13. The draw ceremony was held at the BFF House yesterday.
Abahani and Mohammedan were drawn in Group B alongside Feni Soccer Club, Brothers Union and relegated side Uttar Baridhara Club. Sheikh Russel and Muktijoddha SKC were pitted in Group A along with Team BJMC and Chittagong Abahani.
Russel will take on Chittagong Abahani in the inaugural match of the meet at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on September 13 while BJMC will face Muktijoddha in the second game of the opening day at the same venue. Two matches will be held every day with the first match starting at 4pm and the second one set at 6pm. The final will take place on September 30.
The details of the meet were revealed at the draw ceremony. Airtel is the title sponsor of the tournament while Pragati Insurance Limited and Amber Group are the co-sponsors. Airtel is providing Tk3m while the two co-sponsors will distribute Tk500,000 each. Every team will receive Tk300,000 as participating money with the winners and runners-up side pocketing Tk50,000 and Tk25,000 respectively. Meanwhile, despite playing in the professional football league, Sheikh Jamal DC are not taking part in the tournament.
