Journalist Jorge Fabien Goldi of Argentina’s daily newspaper Diario Los Andes based in the city of Mendoza claimed that Brazil’s 7-1 in the World Cup may not be repeated again, he said following the conclusion of the first semifinal at the Estadio Mineirao.
“I feel proud to see the slice of history in a semifinal of the World Cup and a scoreline of 7-1 against Brazil. I don’t think it would happen again. It is almost impossible. It happened once in the history of the World Cup and it has happened today,” said Fabien.
His explanation was clear. “Brazil are the five-time champions, Germany have won the World Cup thrice but played like a world champion while Brazil played like an amateur outfit. Four goals in seven minutes in a World Cup semifinal will not happen again,” he added.
Local journalist Diego Bertozzi lamented that the Brazilian people had to bear the pain of not winning any World Cup at home. “Without Neymar, the players should have shown more responsibility. They did not show that. It’s the worst day of Brazilian football. Its the repeat of Maracanazo. Now it is Minerazo. I think after the conceding the first goal, Brazilian players went out of mind. They were shaky and out-of-planet knowing nothing about what to do,” said Diego who works for Fox Sports in Brazil. But his following statement was more significant. “It would have more disastrous if Argentina beat Brazil in the semis, even by 1-0 margin,” the Brazilian journalist added.
Voss Sven of German Television said he felt he was not in this world. “It was unbelievable. It has never happened before. It was incredible. I believed Germany would win but with this margin it is impossible. Now I hope Germany win the fourth World Cup title,” said Voss.
Valeria Maria, a freelance Brazilian journalist, blamed Luiz Felipe Scolari. “From the beginning of the World Cup I believed that the right team was not picked out. Scolari’s choice was not right and it was proved in a disastrous way. Brazil also failed to come out of the Neymar shock. Their whole plan was destroyed without him and Brazil became a weak team. Let’s see what happens in 2018,” said Valeria.
