In 1950 it was Maracanzo now in 2014 is Mineiraozo.

It proved to be Brazil’s biggest ever defeat surpassing their 6-0  loss to Uruguay in 1920. Germany also entered the record books as they inflicted the biggest win in the World Cup semifinals till date burning Brazil to ashes and surpassing the previous record of 6-1.

There were moments of madness in the Brazilian defence and a ruthless Germany effectively ended the game in the first 28 minutes when the stunned the world taking on the way to taking a 5-0 lead. What the Brazilian defence of David Luiz, Dante, Maicon and Marcelo were thinking would remain as mystery but they were clearly out of their depth against a red hot Germany.

They underestimated Germany and paid a toll. All of them were busy attacking, forgetting that Germany possess some of the the quickest runners Abject Brazil humiliated by Germany in the field. It was agony to see the all German scorers  unmarked. With the absence of Thiago Sliva, Dante was inserted in central defender, but David Luiz looked more like a forward than a defender. Their attacking approach saw them concede five goals in 28 minutes leaving them with nothing but pride to play for..

The mauling started in the 11th minute when Thomas Mueller duly anticipated a curved corner of Tony Kroos and enjoyed all the free space to sidefoot the ball into the near post. He was totally unmarked and the goal was an easy one.

Then it was Miroslav Klose’s moment of glory in the 23rd  minute. Tony Kroos laid the ball to Klose whose first attempt was saved by Caesar but the rebound was taken by Klose as he tapped home from a close range. It was 16th World Cup goal and he ascended the all time leading scorers throne overlapping Ronaldo who had 15.

Brazil and about 50 thousand fans in the Mineirao Stadium could not even imagine what would happen in the next four minutes. In the 24th, Philip Lahm, the coolest crosser of the world cut a low cross to Tony Kroos, again unmarked and with a quick swing he put the ball into right hand post of Julio Caesar who was still to absorb the shock.

Two minutes later Sammy Khedira and Tony Kroos played one two and Kroos taped home his second in two minutes tapping the square pass in. Germany sat on a four goal cushion.

Maybe any other team in the world would have taken their foot off the gas after surging to a four goal lead but the German ruthlessness and professionalism were evident when Sammy Khedira was set up by Mesut Ozil at the top of the box, Khedira drilled a low shot past a diving Caesar.

The scoreline remained unchanged before the half time when a team concedes five goals the second half becomes ordinary. But it was against illuminated by substitute forward Andre Schuerrle. As Brazlian attackers went ahead in pursuit of a goal the quick footed forward added another two in 69 and 79th minute.

Oscar pulled back a consolation goal in the last minute of the match for Brazil. Truth be told it is was no consolation at all.
