With his superb looks and perfect physique, the first question that Alessandro del Piero is likely to encounter is why he did not enter the film industry. Even at the age of 39, del Piero will fit the silver screen perfectly.
Having taken part in three World Cups, del Piero is the leading goalscorer for Juventus and the joint-fourth highest scorer for Italy. A World Cup winner in 2006, the former Juventus forward has been providing analytical presentations for a Brazilian channel in the ongoing World Cup. Consequently, when he visits a stadium’s media centre it is expected that he will draw considerable attention. I was also thrilled to find out that his English accent is quite good.
Wearing a fitting white blazer, a skin-tight trouser and a pair of sneakers, Del Piero looked dashing. Throughout his career he was admired for his looks and gestures and I realised why he had received so many awards as a footballer.
Always smiling, talking in a very low voice and stylish gestures to go with it, it is no wonder that del Piero is an instant success. He did not refuse anybody asking him something and tried to answer everyone’s queries although he showed some urgency in order to meet his deadline.
He said he was enjoying his new role as a journalist. “ I have seen many sides of this game. As a fan, as a spectator, after winning and having been defeated. Now I will be following this World Cup with a new uniform, the one of a journalist. It will be curious to see it from the other side of the stadium and not in the middle of the field,” said Del Piero.
Del Piero also stated that previously he had remarked that the South American teams will dominate the World Cup.
“Apart from Brazil and Argentina, all the other teams team have fared well here because of the mental and physical proximity. I will make no comment on Italy but Germany and Holland are also playing well,” he said.
With the crowd of journalists suddenly growing bigger, Del Piero had to leave. As he started to walk a good number of television cameramen followed him.
He did not say anything rude to the cameramen who were following him and waved before he got out of the gate. It was all done in a manner befitting the true gentleman that he is.
