Arch rivals Abahani Ltd and Dhaka Mohammedan were pitted in the same group of the Modhumoti Bank Independence Cup Football that starts from March 22nd at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. The ten teams of Bangladesh Premier League and Bangladesh Championship League outfits Rahmatganj and Arambagh will feature in the tournament that marks the independence of the country.
Modhumoti Bank Ltd, a new private sector bank of the country, stepped ahead to sponsor the tournament and vowed to support football in the deal signing and the draw ceremony at the BFF House on Monday.
Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, MP, the chairman of the Executive Committee of Modhumoti Bank said football is still the mass people’s game of the country. “I believe football is still the mass people’s game where everyone enjoys the passion of the beautiful game, we are here to support football and believe it will one day fulfill the expectations,” said Taposh.
BFF president Kazi Salahuddin welcomed Modhumoti Banl to the football arena. “I welcome Modhumoti Bank in our football world, I have every belief that Bangladesh would become the top footballing nation in the sub-continent and we need some support from the sponsors, I hope Modhumoti Bank will continue the involvement with football,” said Salahuddin.
BFF senior vice president Abdus Salam Murshedy, Modhumti Bank CEO Mizanur Rahman BFF executive committee members, general secretary Aby Naeem Shohag and others were also present on the occasion.
