Abahani face Saif Sporting in BPL football opener

Reigning champion Dhaka Abahani Limited will take on newly promoted Saif Sporting Club in the inaugural match of the Saif Power Battery Bangladesh Premier League Football 2016-17 season, which kicks off at Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday at 4:30pm. The fixtures of the first phase of the country’s top flight was released by the BFF on Wednesday, a day after the tournament logo was unveiled. The first phase is scheduled to conclude on September 20 this year.

There will be another big battle in the opening day as former champion Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club will play against traditional crowdpuller Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited at the same venue at 6:45pm. With the participation of 12 clubs, a total of 66 matches will be held in the first phase of the league out of which only five home games of Chittagong Abahani Limited will be held at MA Aziz Stadium in the port city while the remaining 61 matches will be held in Dhaka’s BNS.
