BFF get hold of Kamalapur stadium

Update : 22 Dec 2013, 06:33 PM

Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) and National Sports Council (NSC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for 10 years at the NSC conference room yesterday, in order to setup artificial turf at the Bir Sreshtho Shaheed Sipahi Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur.

BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag and NSC secretary Sibnath Roy signed the contract on behalf of their respective association. The deal means BFF now has no barrier to send necessary documents to Fifa to get the stadium approved for the turf, which is under Fifa’s Goal Project Four.

“The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed according to instructions from Fifa. We will send the required documents to Fifa within this month. The stadium will get the permission after the next meeting of Fifa technical and development committee. After that, the installation process will start,” said Shohag yesterday.

The BFF general secretary also spoke about the possible time to set up the astro turf at the venue. “It will take few months to finish the formalities to get the approval officially. By this time, the league will be complete and World Cup will start. During the break for World Cup, we expect to finish the installation process,” he added.

Sibnath Roy said that the renovation work of BFF football academy at Sylhet BKSP will resume very soon. BFF development committee chairman Badal Roy is also hopeful that if everything goes according to plan the academy will begin in February.

Earlier Fifa wanted BFF to get the long-term control of Kamalapur stadium before they start working on the turf.
