The next Congress of the South Asian Football Federation (Saff) will be held in Dhaka in mid February next year 2014, informed Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag yesterday.
It is expected that BFF president Kazi Salahuddin is set to retain the Saff presidency for the next four years and the decision is likely to be finalised during the congress.
The new schedule of Saff Congress in Dhaka was finalised in the Saff executive committee meeting held in Kuala Lumpur on November 24. Last time the Saff congress was held in Dhaka was in October 2009 where Salahuddin became the Saff president succeeding Ganesh Thapa, the president of All Nepal Football Association.
There will also be few changes in the executive committee of Saff as the vice-president posts will be extended from two to three.
“The next Saff Congress will be held in Dhaka at the middle of February (2014). There could be three vice presidents in Saff. With president, three vice-president and 8 members from Saff countries there will be a 12-member committee,” informed Abu Nayeem Shohag yesterday.
As no one from the other eight Saff countries have yet expressed an interest in seeking the president post, Kazi Salahuddin is most likely to retain his post.
“There is yet no contender against him (Kazi Salahuddin) for the president post. So, I hope he will be re-elected as Saff president again,” added Shohag.
Meanwhile, if another contender were to appear by this time, the eight countries would vote, but if Salahuddin runs unopposed there will be no need for an election. Salahuddin was elected Saff president as an unopposed candidate in 2009.
