Argentina reclaim top spot in FIFA Ranking, Bangladesh unmoved

Reigning world champions rise two places to No. 1 after impressive performances in their World Cup warm-up matches

Update : 12 Jun 2026, 12:34 PM

Reigning world champions Argentina have climbed back to the summit of the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola Men's World Ranking, while Bangladesh retained their 181st position following their recent international friendly victory.

The June edition of the FIFA rankings, published just hours before the start of the expanded FIFA World Cup, saw Argentina rise two places to No. 1 after impressive performances in their World Cup warm-up matches.

La Albiceleste reclaimed the top spot for the first time since July 2025 after securing victories over Iceland and Honduras during the latest international window. Argentina will now begin the defence of their world title as the highest-ranked team in men's international football.

Spain remained second in the standings despite mixed results in their preparatory fixtures, drawing against Iraq before registering a win over Peru.

France, who previously occupied the top position, dropped two places to third. Les Bleus suffered a defeat against Côte d'Ivoire before bouncing back with a victory over Northern Ireland, resulting in their slide down the rankings.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh maintained their position at 181st in the world after recording a historic 2-1 victory over San Marino in an international friendly last week.

Although the win did not alter Bangladesh's ranking, it boosted their rating points from 899.53 to 902.93, reflecting a positive gain for the men in red and green.

The latest rankings incorporated results from a series of pre-World Cup friendlies, marking the second period in which the FIFA/Coca-Cola Men's World Ranking was updated in real time during international matches.

Bangladesh's triumph over San Marino was particularly significant as it was their first-ever international match against a European nation on European soil, providing a valuable boost in confidence ahead of SAFF Championship 2026.

With the FIFA World Cup set to get under way, Argentina head into the tournament carrying the dual honour of being both defending champions and the world's top-ranked side.
