Abahani Limited edged Fortis FC 1-0 in the Bangladesh Football League (BFL) at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla on Friday.

The Sky Blues extended their unbeaten run to 11 matches while registering a sixth consecutive league victory, strengthening their position in second place on the table.

The decisive moment came in the opening minute when Fortis defender Mithun Chowdhury turned the ball into his own net. Sri Lankan goalkeeper Sujan Perera and Mithun both went for a clearance, but a lack of coordination resulted in the ball deflecting off Mithun and rolling into the net.

Despite the early setback, third-placed Fortis pushed forward in search of an equaliser but failed to break through Abahani’s defence.

The win took Abahani to 28 points from 14 matches, level with league leaders Bashundhara Kings, who have a game in hand. Fortis remain on 25 points from 14 matches.

In the day’s other match, Arambagh Krira Sangha recorded their third win in the Bangladesh Football League (BFL) beating old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society by a solitary goal held at Shaheed Tapan-Miraj Stadium in Manikganj.

After the barren first half, Ghanaian forward Kwame Kizito scored the all-important goal for Arambagh in the 46th minute of the match.

With the day's victory, Arambagh, struggling to skip relegation, moved up eighth position in the league table with 13 points from 14 matches while Rahmatganuj, standing fourth position in the league table, remained with their previous collection of 19 points playing the same number of matches.
