The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has begun its search for a new head coach of the senior national team, as Javier Cabrera’s four-year tenure is set to end later this month.
Cabrera has been serving as head coach of the Men in Red and Green since January 2022. He is the longest-serving foreign coach in the history of the Bangladesh national football team.
The Spanish coach’s contract is due to expire on April 30, 2026. The BFF has indicated that it is unlikely to renew his contract, announcing that the process to appoint a new head coach has already begun.
“We have started searching for a new coach from today,” said BFF executive member Amirul Islam Babu after a national team management committee meeting in the capital on Saturday.
Amirul, who is also a member of the national team management committee, said the federation will invite applications for the head coach position for the next two years.
He, however, did not rule out the possibility of reappointing Cabrera.
It was also revealed that the federation is looking to appoint a new goalkeeping coach.
Meanwhile, Cabrera oversaw 39 international matches during his four-year tenure, recording 10 wins, 10 draws and 19 losses.
