Girls shift focus to China after Thailand setback

Head coach Peter Butler held an on-field briefing after the session, addressing key moments from the Thailand match

Bangladesh U-20 women’s national football team returned to training with a structured post-match recovery session in Bangkok on Thursday morning, following their opening match of the AFC  U-20 Women's Asian Cup defeat against hosts Thailand.

The session took place at the Alpine Training Camp (Pitch 2) and was divided into two groups to ensure optimal preparation ahead of their next fixture. Players who featured in Wednesday’s match underwent recovery-focused activities designed to aid muscle regeneration and maintain fitness levels. The remaining squad members took part in a more intensive on-field programme aimed at sustaining match sharpness.

The second group worked on small-sided games, possession-based drills and match-scenario exercises to fine-tune tactical execution and overall coordination. The training was part of the team’s broader plan to quickly regroup and refocus ahead of their crucial encounter against China PR.

Head coach Peter Butler held an on-field briefing after the session, addressing key moments from the Thailand match. He highlighted areas that require improvement, particularly game management and maintaining composure under pressure. A more detailed tactical review was scheduled later in the day, with the coaching staff set to conduct a video analysis session and team meeting at the hotel.

Forward Mst Sagorika reflected on the defeat, admitting that the team struggled to maintain intensity after taking a two-goal lead. She noted that conceding multiple goals in the second half affected the players mentally, which ultimately made it difficult to regain control of the match.

Despite the disappointment, there was positive news from the medical team, as no serious injuries were reported. All players remain fit and available for selection ahead of the next match.

Bangladesh will continue their preparations with another training session at the same venue on Friday as they gear up for their second group-stage clash against China PR U-20 women’s national team on Saturday. The coaching staff will be aiming to sharpen both tactical discipline and mental resilience as the young Tigresses look to bounce back strongly in the tournament.
