Vietnam head coach Kim Sang-sik has revealed his team are closely studying Hamza Choudhury as they prepare to face Bangladesh in a FIFA international friendly on Thursday.
The midfielder is expected to be a central figure when Bangladesh take on the hosts, with the match serving as a key preparatory fixture ahead of their final AFC Asian Cup qualifiers clash against Singapore.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, Kim acknowledged Hamza’s quality and said his coaching staff are working on strategies to neutralise the 28-year-old’s influence.
“I am aware of Hamza. He is playing in England. Together with my players, we are analyzing videos of him to find ways to deal with his strengths,” said Kim. “Our target is to win the match.”
The Vietnam boss also noted Bangladesh’s recent progress, highlighting the impact of foreign-based players in strengthening the squad.
“Bangladesh have changed a lot compared to last year, from the coaching staff to the squad, especially with the addition of players competing abroad. I believe their current squad is much stronger than before,” he added.
However, Hamza’s participation in the match remains uncertain. Bangladesh head coach Javier Cabrera confirmed that the midfielder’s condition will be assessed after his recent arrival in camp.
“Hamza only arrived yesterday afternoon. He is doing well, but needs time to adjust to the weather and time zone. We will assess and consider his availability for the match,” Cabrera said.
Hamza, who plays club football for Leicester City, switched his international allegiance to Bangladesh last year in a landmark move, becoming the first player with Premier League experience to represent the national team.
He made his debut on March 25, 2025, in a goalless draw against India during the opening match of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. Since then, Hamza has featured in seven matches for Bangladesh, scoring four goals.
