Bangladesh women’s football team played out a goalless draw with Indonesia in their first match of the three-team friendly tournament at King Abdullah ll Stadium in Amman, Jordan Saturday.
Indonesia (94th) are 39 places above Bangladesh (133rd) in the latest FIFA rankings.
The Bengal Tigresses toured Jordan leaving the veteran captain Sabina Khatun out of the squad.
Players like Sanjida Akter, Krishna Rani Sarkar and Matsushima Sumaya were also left out.
Head coach Peter Butler handed the captaincy to Afeida Khandakar who started in defence alongside Sheuli Azim, Shamsunnahar and Kohati Kisku.
Monika Chakma and Maria Manda partnered in midfield along with the young Sapna Rani.
Other youngster Shamsunnahar Jr started up front alongside Ritu Porna Chakma and Tohura Khatun.
“The girls were doing absolutely brilliant. We missed a couple of chances but I’m really proud the way they played and built from the back,” said English coach Butler after the game.
Bangladesh will face hosts Jordan in their next match at the same venue Tuesday.
