The Dhaka Tribune took another step towards meeting the ambitions of lifting the Kool-BSJA Media Cup Football Tournament 2025 after sealing their place among the last remaining four sides in the 32-team competition Saturday.

DT will face Jugantor in Sunday’s semi-final in the capital’s Paltan ground while ATN Bangla and Desh TV will lock horns with each other in the other last four clash, with both matches taking place simultaneously, starting at 9am.

The final will be held hours later at 11am after the battle for supremacy between the two newspapers in the second semi, and the television channel duo in the first.

Former champions DT ensured their berth on the finals day with a last-gasp 1-0 quarter-final victory over Channel i thanks to a scorcher of a goal from their captain Fazley Rabbi Moon.

In the dying moments of the game, when thoughts were lingering of the prospect of a penalty shootout, player of the match Moon came up with a sumptuous right-footed volley to beat the opposition keeper, akin to that of James Rodriguez’s effort for Colombia against Uruguay in the 2014 World Cup.

The DT skipper continued his scoring form in the tournament, while the backline marshalled the fort to keep the opponent attackers at bay, and registered their second clean sheet in third attempt.

Former national footballer Josimuddin Ahmed Josi, ex-national hockey player Rafiqul Islam Kamal, Dhaka Reporters Unity’s general secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel, Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association president Arifur Rahman Babu, general secretary SM Sumon and vice president and tournament convener Raihan Al Mugni were present during the occasion and distributed prizes among the winners.
