Reporter Mazharul Hoque Shishir brought more laurels for the Dhaka Tribune as his special series on the Rangatungi football girls won fifth place in the AIPS (International Sports Press Association) media award.
Shishir’s five-part special series, charting the rise of the Rangatungi football girls hailing from Ranisankail of Thakurgaon district near the Bangladesh-India border, landed the accolade in the “Writing Best Colour” category for the Asia region.
It is another feather in the hat for Shishir, who in December last year claimed the runner-up prize in the exclusive report category at the Bangladesh Sports Press Association awards for his feature story on the late legendary athlete Shah Alam and his family’s financial troubles.
Shishir shed light on the remarkable yet ultimately tragic story of Shah Alam, one of the country’s greatest ever athletes, and his family’s financial plight over the years.
In his reaction to the latest AIPS award, Shishir thanked the Dhaka Tribune and expressed gratitude to the English daily newspaper, considered one of the major dailies in Bangladesh.
