The long wait of Mohammedan Sporting Club is over as they clinched the top-flight football league title after 23 years with three games to spare.
It is their first title since the start of the professional football league.
The Black and Whites were not playing on the historic occasion.
The defeat of Abahani Limited against Fortis FC at Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Comilla was enough for the title confirmation.
As soon as the Sky Blues lost the tie 2-1 against 10-man Fortis, Mohammedan camp started celebration at the club tent.
With three fixtures left, Mohammedan earned 38 points from 15 matches while second-placed Abahani have 28 points from the same outings.
The top-tier league used to be called Dhaka Premier Division League, also popularly known as Dhaka League, when Mohammedan last won it in 2002.
It was later known as B-League followed by Bangladesh Premier League after the introduction of professional football in 2007.
