The Bangladesh women’s football team was announced Thursday as the winner of the Ekushey Padak 2025 in the sports category.
The women in red and green are the unbeaten champions of the last two editions of the SAFF Women’s Championship.
They first won the prestigious tournament in 2022, followed by successfully defending their title in 2024.
Both competitions took place in Kathmandu, Nepal.
The announcement comes at a time when a dispute between a group of national women footballers and their head coach is ongoing.
Ekushey Padak is the second-highest civilian award in Bangladesh.
Alongside the women’s football team, 14 individuals have also been named as recipients of the award.
The award is given in various fields, including arts, language and literature, education, culture, social service, research, journalism, and human rights.
