Malian striker Souleymane Diabate’s lone goal helped Mohammedan defeat Abahani 1-0 at Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Comilla Saturday.
The first tie between the two traditional archrivals in the Bangladesh Premier League this season ended up sending the Black and Whites to the top of the table.
Diabate found the net from a glancing header in the dying stages of the first half to make all the difference and help Mohammedan get back to winning ways.
Alfaz Ahmed’s charges earlier conceded a narrow 1-0 defeat to Rahmatganj in their last match which was in the Federation Cup, but they remained unbeaten in the league with three wins from as many outings.
For Abahani, it was their first defeat after two consecutive wins.
