Reigning treble winners Bashundhara Kings came from behind after the break to beat Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited 3-1 at Kings Arena Friday and lift the first ever Bangladesh 2.0 Challenge Cup 2024-25 trophy.

Mohammedan had the lead for more than an hour after Malian forward Souleymane Diabate opened the scoring through a header in the seventh minute.

Topu Barman poked in a corner of Miguel Ferreira to equalize in the 73rd minute before Foysal Ahmed Fahim gave the Kings the lead in the 81st minute.

Miguel also provided the assist for Fahim’s goal with a pin-point cross.

The Brazilian also scored the third goal following a solo effort in added time.

Challenge Cup, much like England’s FA Community Shield where the league champions and Cup winners usually face off, has been introduced in Bangladesh from the just kicked-off 2024-25 season.

For being the runners-up of the domestic league, Mohammedan became the opponent of the Kings who won both the league and cup titles last season.

Head coach Alfaz Ahmed’s Mohammedan fought well for almost 70 minutes before Valeriu Tita’s Kings found ways to penetrate the opposition defence.
