Tabith Awal, former vice-president of Bangladesh Football Federation, announced Monday that he would contest for the BFF president post in the upcoming election, scheduled for October 26 this year.
The football organizer, who was elected as BFF vice-president twice during 2012 and 2016 election, told the reporters about his decision at a press conference held at Hotel Sonargaon in the capital.
“I took part in the last three BFF elections. I will contest again, this time in president post,” said Tabith.
Tabith participated in 2020 election as an independent candidate for vice-president post but lost the polls.
After being elected as vice-president in 2016, Tabith also served as the chairman of the BFF technical committee.
He also patronized former Bangladesh Premier League side Feni Soccer Club which is now defunct.
He now patronizes Championship outfit Nofel Sporting club.
Tabith is a businessman and also a Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader.
He ran for Dhaka City Mayor during 2020 elections.
Earlier, four-time BFF president Kazi Salahuddin decided not to contest for the prestigious post.
Tabith worked with Salahuddin from 2012 to 2020 in two terms.
Within a day after Salahuddin’s announcement, Tarafder Ruhul Amin said he would participate in the election for BFF president post.
Currently, Tabith and Tarafder are up for BFF president post following Salahuddin’s reign in last 16 years.
