Bangladesh Under-20 football team kicked off their AFC U-20 Asian Cup 2025 Qualifiers campaign losing to higher ranked Syria 4-0 in one of the two opening day matches at Lach Tray Stadium in the Vietnamese city of Haipong Saturday evening
SAFF U-20 champions Bangladesh, placed 186th in FIFA rankings, were trailing 2-0 against FIFA ranked 92nd Syria in the first half of the rain-delayed encounter.
Kawa Issa put Syria ahead in the fifth minute before Youshaa Knaj doubled the margin in the 12th minute.
Wassam Dukhan scored the third in the 72nd minute before Anas Dahhan completed the rout in the 80th minute.
In the day's opening Group A clash, Bhutan played out a 1-1 draw with Guam at the same venue in the afternoon.
Bangladesh are placed in five-team Group A of the qualifiers alongside Syria, hosts Vietnam, Bhutan and Guam.
In the remaining group matches, Bangladesh will play Guam Monday, Vietnam Friday and Bhutan the following Sunday.
Ten Asian group champions along with five best runners up sides will qualify for the next round of the AFC U-20 Asian Cup.
