After criticizing Salahuddin’s 16-year reign at the football federation, Tarafder pledged to develop football from grassroot to district and divisional level

Tarafder Ruhul Amin, managing director of Saif Powertec Limited, declared Sunday that he would run for Bangladesh Football Federation’s president post in the upcoming BFF Election in October this year.

The decision came only a day after current BFF boss Kazi Salahuddin announced his decision to pull away from October 26’s poll having served as president for the last four times in succession.

Tarafder worked with Salahuddin during 2016 election.

He was the chief election coordinator of Kazi Salahuddin-led panel.

Being the secretary general of Bangladesh District and Divisional Football Association back then in 2020, he first decided to run for president post in 2020 BFF election but later backtracked as Salahuddin won a fourth consecutive term by distinct margin.

The sports organizer cum business personality returned to the election scenario with the latest announcement made at Hotel Intercontinental in the capital Sunday afternoon.

After criticizing Salahuddin’s 16-year reign at the football federation, Tarafder pledged to develop football from grassroot to district and divisional level.

He said: “If you elect me, I will work from the root level. I will decentralize football activities.”

Veteran coach and organizer Shafiqul Islam Manik, who ran for president post in the last election as independent candidate, was also present on the occasion supporting Tarafder.

Tarafder also said he will announce a combined panel in the coming days.
