In a bid to motivate its team to win their first Saff Championship, All Nepal Football Association (Anfa) promised each of its players an apartment and a lifetime pension of Nepali Rupees 10,000 ($95.12) yesterday at a crowded press conference held at Dashrath Stadium.
Ganesh Thapa, the president of Anfa announced, “We will left no stone unturned to see Nepal win the title of the Saff Championship. We have pledged to provide the same award in the last edition but it was not achieved. Now this time and in our own yard, I hope Nepal will win the Saff title and we will provide an apartment and NR10,000 for each player’s lifetime.”
An enthusiastic Ganesh called on all Nepalese sports lovers to show their support for the national team. “I have read in Bangladesh media that Nepal is the favourite and it made me more confident, I request all the sections of the society to cheer the football team up and they present the title to the nation,” said Ganesh.
The president went on to talk about security and urged political forces to refrain from any activity that could disrupt the tournament. “I urge all the political parties to refrain fromcalling strikes during the SAFF Championship, which is a national pride for us, I expect all possible cooperation from the all the political parties.” He added that with the government’s assistance, pilfer proof security would surround the Dashrath Stadium and both uniformed and plain clothes security personnel would be on constant duty.
