Bangladesh football team conceded a 4-0 defeat against Lebanon in Doha Tuesday to conclude the second round of FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup 2027 joint qualifiers.

Lebanon played out a 1-1 draw against hosts Bangladesh in the first leg last year.

They appeared stronger in the return leg.

Hassan Maatouk, Lebanon's most capped player and all-time top scorer, had a memorable night to call it a day at the age of 36 with a hat-trick.

The skipper opened the scoring from a penalty in the fifth minute before adding two more in the first 15 minutes of the second half.

Midfielder Nader Matar scored the other in the added time just before the break.

Bangladesh are not only ranked much lower but the Lebanese side are also more experienced.

Javier Cabrera's charges created a chance and went close to scoring in the 17th minute when the Lebanese goalkeeper made a diving save to deny Rakib Hossain's fine effort.

Rakib had another opportunity from the penalty area that flew over the woodwork.

Young goalkeeper Mitul Marma produced some notable saves but the defence was not in the best shape during the goals.

The men in red and green will now compete in the third phase of Asian Cup qualification round after finishing bottom of just concluded Group I table with one point.
