Bangladeshi forward Sanjida Akter arrived in Kolkata to begin her new journey as the first ever female foreign footballer of traditional Indian outfit East Bengal FC.
The 22-year old is set to join her first practice session with the Indian Women’s League side Friday, said team manager Indrani Sarkar after confirming the signing and arrival of Sanjida.
“We are pleased that she (Sanjida) is the first international women footballer of East Bengal who came from Bangladesh,” said Indrani over phone from Kolkata.
It will be the first time for the former Bashundhara Kings winger making a mark in an overseas league after Sabina Khatun and Krishna Rani Sarkar.
Sabina earlier signed for Kickstart FC and joined the Karnataka based outfit for her second spell in the IWL.
Sanjida is expected to make her IWL debut when East Bengal face Sports Odisha in their next match Tuesday.
