With two goals and an assist, Stewart Cornelius starred in Abahani Limited’s comfortable 3-1 win over Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra in the Bangladesh Premier League at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium in Gopalganj Saturday.
The Grenadian forward fed the ball for Brazilian midfielder Jonathan Fernandez into the right side of the box to open the scoring in the 12th minute.
Cornelius got his own two minutes into the added time of first half with a close-range finish on rebounder before heading home Fernandez’s cross to extend the advantage in the 85th minute.
National striker Sumon Reza pulled one back for Sheikh Russel in the 73rd minute.
Mohammedan Sporting Club were also on the winning side the same day as they beat Police FC 3-2 at Rofique Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh.
Jafar Iqbal, Muzaffarjon Muzaffarov and Souleymane Diabate netted one each for Mohammedan while Sahed Miah and Mateo Palacious scored for Police.
In Munshiganj, Chiitagong Abahani came back from two-goal deficit to register a 2-2 draw against Brothers Union.
Mahbubur Rahman scored twice to put Brothers ahead before Mannaf Rabby and Nasir Uddin Chowdhury hit back late to make things all square.
Earlier Friday, Dorielton Gomez bagged a brace before Robson Robinho added another as Bashundhara Kings outplayed Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club 3-0 in Gopalganj to extend league their lead while Rahmatganj MFS and Fortis FC played out a 2-2 draw in Rajshahi.
