Choton’s Army keep on holding BPL clubs

Choton took charge of the Army football side after quitting the national women’s team job where he served as head coach for almost one and a half decades with unprecedented success

Bangladesh Army football team guided by Golam Rabbani Choton clinched another famous draw after holding Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited in the previous match.

This time, the non-topflight side played out a goalless draw against another Bangladesh Premier League outfit Fortis FC in the capital’s Kings Arena Tuesday.

Choton took charge of the Army football side after quitting the national women’s team job where he served as head coach for almost one and a half decades with unprecedented success.

Army made last Federation Cup champions Mohammedan suffer to collect a point in the Group C opener.

The Black and Whites came from behind twice to leave the pitch with a 2-2 draw.

Mohammedan and Fortis will face off against each other in the final group fixture Saturday.

The top two finishers will advance to the quarter-finals and if Mohammedan or Fortis win, Army will certainly make it.

A draw will also keep them in contention.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Navy held Chittagong Abahani Ltd to a 1-1 draw.

Navy led the game for almost an hour after Salim Reza’s goal in the 12th minute.

Former national midfielder Hemanta Vincent Biswas rescued the port city club in the 74th minute but his side have the toughest task left against Bashundhara Kings in the last Group D match.

Navy earlier lost to the BPL champions 1-0 in their tournament opener.
