Bangladesh opened their campaign at the Asian Football Confederation Women’s Under-17 Tournament final round with a 2-0 loss to hosts Vietnam at Youth Football Training Center in Hanoi.
The girls in red and green had beaten the same opponent by an identical margin five years ago in the first round of the AFC Women’s U-16 Tournament but Vietnam finished on the winning side this time, scoring once in each half in Wednesday’s encounter.
Bangladesh will take on Philippines in their next match Friday before rounding off the group phase against Australia Sunday.
Bangladesh advanced to the second round of the competition after emerging Group D champions in the first round following a 6-0 thrashing of Turkmenistan and 3-0 victory over hosts Singapore last April.
