Argentine World Cup winner Angel di Maria is likely to tour Bangladesh for the second time for a day-long visit on October 23 this year, sports entrepreneur Satadru Dutta told Dhaka Tribune Thursday.
“We are trying to bring Di Maria to Dhaka on October 23,” said Satadru, who was responsible for arranging another Argentine World Cup winner, Emiliano Martinez’s visit to Dhaka last month.
Martinez’s day-long tour came under heavy criticism as there was no public interaction with the World Cup star despite having a huge fan base of Argentina football team in Bangladesh.
Satadru admitted that this time he is more aware of the situation and wants to arrange a public event through the sponsor during Di Maria’s visit.
“We are making plans accordingly so that general people get a chance to see Di Maria. We are talking to sponsors keeping this in mind,” said Satadru.
Di Maria first came to Bangladesh in September, 2011 with the Argentina side that played a FIFA friendly against Nigeria at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka.
The 35-year old winger, who was playing for Real Madrid at that time, now plies his trade for Benfica.
