BFF wants men’s football team at Asian Games

The BOA in an executive committee meeting Saturday decided not to send the men’s football team to the Asiad due to lack of satisfactory performance in recent times

Bangladesh Football Federation asked Bangladesh Olympic Association to include men's football team in the contingent of 19th Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, China in September this year.

Kazi Nabil Ahmed, the vice president of both BFF and BOA, informed this to the reporters after a couple of meetings at the BFF House Sunday.

The previous day, the BOA in an executive committee meeting decided not to send the men's football team to the Asiad due to lack of satisfactory performance in recent times.

“I talked to the BOA president [after the meeting] and told him about Bangladesh beating Qatar in the last Asian Games to advance to the second round. I also discussed this with the secretary general to include the men's team,” said Nabil.

“It's under consideration now. I hope in the upcoming meetings they revise the decision to send the men's team too,” the BFF vice president added.

Earlier, BFF president Kazi Salahuddin had also expressed discontent on BOA's decision to exclude men's football team from the Asiad contingent.

Bangladesh made history during the last edition in Indonesia 2018 by qualifying for the knockout stages for the first time ever.

While talking to Dhaka Tribune, A K Sarkar, Bangladesh's Chef de Mission, did not deny the possibility of including the men's football team in the upcoming meetings.

The 19th Asian Games was earlier scheduled to be held last year but Covid pandemic forced the mega event to be postponed.

The Games is rescheduled to take place from September 23 to October 8 this year featuring a total of 482 events from 40 sports.
